Swiss Steak

If desired, gravy can be thickened with leftover flour.
After browning, meat can be backed in oven instead of electric skillet

Ingredients

  • 2 Ibs round steak (1 1/2" thick)
  • 1/2 cup flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 4-6 Tbsp shortening
  • 1 med sliced onion
  • 2 cubes beef bouillon
  • 1 cup hot water

Directions

  1. Cut meat into 6 serving pieces

  2. Combine flour, salt, pepper

  3. Pound mixture into both sides of meat

  4. Preheat electric skillet to 325

  5. Melt shortening and brown meat on both sides about 15-20 minutes, adding more shortening if necessary

  6. Place onion slices on top of meat

  7. Dissolve bouillion cubes in the hot water and pour around meat

  8. Cover, reduce temp to low

  9. Cook 2-2 1/2 hours or until meat is fork tender.
