Red Velvet Cake

Ingredients

  • 1/2 C solid shortening
  • 1 1/2 C granulated sugar
  • Beat together
  • Add 2 eggs- Beat 1 minute
  • Separately:
  • 1/4 C red food coloring
  • 2 T cocoa Make paste
  • Then add 1 t salt
  • Add to sugar, shortening, etc mixture
  • Then Mix:
  • 1 t vanilla into
  • 1 C buttermilk Set aside
  • 2 1/4 C all purpose flour alternating with buttermilk is added alternately with buttermilk mixture= beating to incorporate
  • Last mix
  • 1 t baking soda
  • 1 T vinegar=bubbles up a lot
  • Hand spoon and mix into above batter

Directions

  1. 2 prepared cake pan350 degrees

  2. Bake 25-30 minutes

  3. When totally cooked cut each cake layer with thread to have 4 layers

  4. Frost with cream cheese icing
