Hot Apple Cider Punch

(from Thentheresjess’s recipe box)

Looked at several hot Apple cider recipes, took what flavors I liked and came up with this combination. Even my grand kids liked it at room temp.

Ingredients

  • 1 quart bottled apple cider
  • 1 quart cranberry juice (I used Diet cranberry juice.)
  • Cinnamon sticks as needed
  • 1 scant tablespoon whole cloves
  • 2 each 1/2 inch slices fresh ginger
  • Orange slices as needed
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • Apple slices as needed (I probably won’t use any Apple slices the next time I make.)

Directions

  1. Combine Apple cider and cranberry juice in a smaller crockpot turned on high.

  2. Add about 3-4 large cinnamon sticks.

  3. In a coffee filter I rolled and tied up the cloves and ginger slices and tossed into the mixture.

  4. I sliced two thick slices of a large orange and floated on top.

  5. Added the 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice.

  6. Bring to a boil on high, turn to low and steep for 4-6 hours. I added more Apple cider and cranberry juice as needed. I did this the day before, removed the cinnamon sticks, package of spices and orange slices and stored in refrigerator over night.

  7. If you are having a party later in the evening, there is no need to store in fridge. Just add fresh pieces of orange and a couple sticks of fresh cinnamon just prior to serving.
