french bread

Ingredients

  • 1 pkg active dry yeast or 2 1/2 t yeast
  • 1 C warm water
  • 2 T sugar
  • 2 T canola oil
  • 1 1/2 t salt
  • 3-31/4 C all purpose flour
  • Can brush top with egg white and 1 t cold water

Directions

  1. Bloom yeast in warm water

  2. add sugar, oil, salt and 2 C flour

  3. Beat with dough hook until blended

  4. Gradually add remaining flour to form a stiff ball

  5. Knead 6-8 minutes (I knead by hand)

  6. Put in greased bowl, cover , let rise 1 hour

  7. Punch dow

  8. Grease 1 loaf pan and sprinkle with corn meal lightly.

  9. After kneading shape and put dough in loaf pan with seam side down

  10. Cover, Let rise 30-40 minutes

  11. Can brush with whisked egg white mixture

  12. Bake 30 minutes on 375
