Overnight Sausage Souffle

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ling sausage (or bacon or ham)
  • 6 slices bread, cubed
  • 1 1/2 c. grated cheddar or Swiss cheese
  • 5 eggs
  • 1/2 t. salt
  • 1/2 t. dry mustard
  • 2 1/2 c. milk

Directions

  1. The day before, fry sausage, drain and cut into small pieces.

  2. Alternate layers of bread cubes, sausage, and cheese two times in a greased 9 × 13 in. glass dish.

  3. In a bowl, beat eggs and add salt, dry mustard, and milk.

  4. Pour over ingredients in casserole.

  5. If needed, gently push bread down to make sure mixture is covering bread.

  6. Cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate overnight.

  7. The next day, bake uncovered in a preheated 375 oven for 70 min or until a knife inserted in the center comes out clean.
