Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 large onion sliced
  • 1/3 cup flour
  • garlic salt
  • parsley flakes, fresh or dried
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • water
  • canned or fresh mushrooms (optional)

Directions

  1. Form patties from ground beef. Brown in large heavy skillet.

  2. While browning, season with garlic salt, pepper, and parsley flakes. When patties are browned, but not fully cooked, remove temporarily from skillet.

  3. There should be some grease or drippings in the skillet…if there is not enough, add a little oil.

  4. Gently saute onions in drippings until just wilted.

  5. Add flour to onions and drippings, combine. Add optional chili powder if desired.

  6. Add water to skillet, stirring…until skillet is about 1/2 full of water. Return browned patties to gravy and onions. Add optional mushrooms if desired.

  7. Bring to a slow simmer…turn patties once. Reduce heat, cover and simmer slowly for about 30 minutes checking so gravy does not stick or burn on bottom.
