Shadle Cake or Sheath Cake aka Texas Sheet Cake

This cake is so moist it is almost like a brownie…Yummy! Is similar to the “Old Fashioned Chocolate Cake”

Ingredients

  • PART 1:
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 cup Wesson oil
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • -
  • PART 2:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • -
  • PART 3:
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • -
  • ICING:
  • 6 tablespoons milk
  • 1 stick margarine
  • 4 tablespoons cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 box powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup pecans chopped

Directions

  1. PART 1: Bring water, oil, margarine and cocoa to boil.

  2. PART 2: Pour above mixture over the flour and sugar. Mix well.

  3. PART 3: Mix baking soda and buttermilk together. Then add eggs, cinnamon and buttermilk/baking soda mixture to batter. Mix all ingredients together.

  4. Pour into greased and floured 12×9×2 inch pan.

  5. Bake 25 minutes at 400 degrees.

  6. Ice while still hot.

  7. ICING: Combine milk, margarine, cocoa and powdered sugar in sauce pan and heat until creamy. Stir in vanilla and pecans.

  8. Ice cake while hot.
