Ginger Snap Cookies

Ingredients

  • 2 c flour
  • 1 T ginger (or more)
  • 2 t baking soda
  • 1 t ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 t salt
  • 3/4 c shortening
  • 1 c sugar
  • 1 t cloves (or more)
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 c dark molasses
  • 1/3 c cinamon sugar (1/2 c sugar to 1 T cinnamon)

Directions

  1. Sift flour, ginger, baking soda, & salt into bowl.

  2. Stir until even.

  3. Sift again.

  4. In new bowl, beat shortening until creamy.

  5. Gradually beat in white sugar.

  6. Beat in egg and molasses.

  7. Sift 1/3 of flour mix into shortening mix.

  8. Stir thoroughly.

  9. Sift in remaining flour.

  10. mix until soft dough forms.

  11. Pinch off small amounts and roll into 1 inch balls.

  12. Roll each ball in cinnamon and sugar mix.

  13. Place 2 inches apart on baking sheet.

  14. Bake until round and slightly cracked.
