The presence of dal in Lau Dal obviously indicates the high protein content of this auxiliary item. And Lau, with its high water content, speaks for itself. Lau Dal is a combination where the two are brought together.

Ingredients

  • 1. Lau (bottle-Guard) : 200 gm (diced)
  • 2. Moong Dal : 250 gm
  • 3. Green Peas : 1 cup
  • 4. Salt : to taste
  • 5. Turmeric powder : 1/2 tsp
  • 6. Sugar : 1 tsp
  • 7. Ginger paste : 1 tsp
  • 8. Whole cumin seed : 1/2 tsp
  • 9. Dry red chilli : 1 piece
  • 10. Bay leaves : 1 piece
  • 11. Oil : 1 tsp
  • 12. Ghee : 1 tsp

Directions

  1. Heat a wok.
  2. Add moong dal & stir fry till golden brown.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Boil the fried mong dal, lau & green peas in 2 cups of water with turmeric powder & a pinch of salt.
  5. Heat oil in a wok.
  6. Add whole dry chilli, whole cumin seed, bay leaf. Stir fry till golden brown.
  7. Add ginger paste. Stir & pour boiled dal, lau & green peas with the water in it.
  8. Add salt & sugar. Allow it to boil for 2 minutes in low flame.
  9. Add ghee before removing from heat.
  10. Serve with steamed rice.
