Moong Dal with Katla Fish is a well known traditional Bengali Recipe. The combination of Moong Dal & Katla fish is awesome.

Ingredients

  • 1. Moong Dal : 250 gm
  • 2. Head of Katla Fish : 400 gm
  • 3. Ginger paste : 1 tbsp
  • 4. Whole jeera seeds : 1 tsp
  • 5. Onion : 1 piece (chopped)
  • 6. Tomato : 1 piece (chopped)
  • 7. Green chilli : 1 piece (slit)
  • 8. Bay leaf : 1 piece
  • 9. Sugar : 1 tsp
  • 10. Salt : to taste
  • 11. Ghee : 1 tbsp
  • 12. Turmeric powder : 1 tsp
  • 13. Oil : as required

Directions

  1. Heat a pan.
  2. Pour Moong dal in the pan. Stir till golden brown.
  3. Remove from heat.
  4. Boil the fried dal with 1 cup of water, ½ tsp of turmeric powder & ghee, till it becomes tendor. Keep aside.
  5. Rub the head of katla fish with turmeric powder & salt. Keep for 15 minutes.
  6. Heat ½ cup of oil in a wok.
  7. Deep fry the head of katla fish. Take out from oil. Crush it & keep aside.
  8. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in another pan.
  9. Add bay leaf, whole jeera seeds & when it is light brown, add green chilli.
  10. Add chopped onion Stir fry.
  11. Add ginger paste, salt, tomato, sugar & fried head of katla fish. Stir well for 2 minutes.
  12. Pour boiled moong dal & ½ cup of water. Cook till it boils.
  13. Remove from heat & serve with steamed rice & lemon slices.
