Aloo Posto is a delicious yet an easy recipe which is a delicacy of Bengal and it is prepared by mixing the poatatoes in poppy seed paste.

Poppy seeds are used around the world in various cuisines. In India, Iran and Turkey poppy seeds are known as khaskhas or haşhaş and are considered highly nutritious, mostly added in dough while baking bread, and recommended for pregnant women and new mothers.

Ingredients

  • 1. Potatoes – 4 (cut in small pieces)
  • 2. Poppy seeds/ posto – 3/4 cup
  • 3. Green chillies – 2-3 (slit)
  • 4. Mustard oil – 3 tbsp
  • 5. Salt – to taste

Directions

  1. Heat mustard oil in a pan and fry the potatoes till golden brown.

  2. Meanwhile grind the poppy seeds, green chillies and salt to a coarse paste (add very little water if you like). Once the potatoes turn golden brown add the poppy seeds paste and mix well.

  3. Saute for 2 minutes and remove from heat.

  4. Delicious and easy Aloo posto is ready to be served hot with hot rice and dal.
