GingerBread Cut-Outs

Letting children decorate cookies for you is fun.
Cut cookies to size desired.
Makes many extra cookies to give as gifts or eat later….

Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup molasses
  • 1/3 cup firmly packed brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup Butter, softened
  • 1 egg
  • 2 teaspoons freshly grated orange peel
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Combine molasses, brown sugar, 1/3 cup butter, egg and orange peel in large bowl. Beat at medium speed until smooth and creamy. Reduce speed to low. Add all remaining cookie ingredients; beat until well mixed. Cover; refrigerate until firm (at least 2 hours).

  2. Heat oven to 350°F. Roll out dough on well-floured surface, one-half at a time (keeping remaining dough refrigerated), to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut with 3 to 4-inch cookie cutters. Place 1 inch apart onto greased cookie sheets.

  3. Bake for 6 to 8 minutes or (for crisper cookies)until no indentation remains when touched. Cool completely.
