Ingredients

  • 1 pound 15 ounce can pork and beans
  • 1 onion sliced
  • 4 pieces thick sliced bacon
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 4 tablespoons vinegar
  • 1/4 teaspoon chili powder (optional)

Directions

  1. Fry bacon in skillet until about half done.

  2. Add sliced onion and cook until tender. (Slicing onion from top to root or vertically rather than in rings actually will give the beans a better taste.)

  3. Drain off fat; add beans, sugar, ketchup, vinegar and chili powder.

  4. Simmer, covered about 45-60 minutes or bake in slow oven at 250 degrees for 3 to 3 1/3 hours.

  5. Oven baking is recommended.
