Ingredients

  • 1 pound chuck roast/chuck steak
  • 1 package dry onion mushroom soup mix
  • 5 carrots
  • 4 potatoes
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • garlic salt, salt & pepper to taste

Directions

  1. TIP: The chuck roast needs to be a fairly thin “roast”. The one we used was really called a chuck steak, tenderized.

  2. Get your dutch oven hot over coals. Brown roast on one side, sprinkle with a little garlic salt, flip over and brown on the other side and sprinkle with dry onion-mushroom soup mix.

  3. Add carrots cut up into small chunks, throw into oven.

  4. Add potatoes cut up into chunks, throw into oven.

  5. Sprinkle everything with just a little salt and pepper.

  6. Pour water into oven.

  7. Place over coals with some coals on top. Check after 30 minutes to see if you need extra water.

  8. Cook for a total of 45 minutes or until carrots and potatoes are tender.
