Honey-Oat Pan Rolls

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 to 2 3/4 c all purpose flour
  • 3/4 c whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 c old-fashioned oats
  • 2 pkgs (1/4 oz each) active dry yeast
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 c water
  • 1/4 c honey
  • 5 Tbsp butter, divided
  • 1 egg

Directions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine 1 c all purpose flour, whole wheat flour, oats, yeast, and salt

  2. In a small sauce pan, heat the water, honey, and 4 Tbsp butter to 120-130 degrees

  3. Add to dry ingredients; beat until just moistened

  4. Add egg; beat until well combined

  5. Stir in enough remaining all purpose flour to form a soft dough

  6. Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic (about 6-8 minutes)

  7. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top

  8. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hr

  9. Punch dough down

  10. Turn onto a lightly floured surface; divide unto 24 pieces

  11. Shape each into a hall

  12. Place in a greased 13×9×2 in baking pan

  13. Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 min

  14. Bake at 375 for 20-22 min or until golden brown

  15. Melt remaining butter; brush over rolls

  16. Remove from pan to wire rack to cool
