Hot Bacon Dressing

(from queenofkats’s recipe box)

Gives salad a tangy kick – I recommend using your favorite creamy dressing on the salad as well (ranch, green goddess, etc)

Categories: salad

Ingredients

  • 3-5 strips of cooked bacon, cut/broken/chopped into bits
  • 2-3 tsp of grease from bacon
  • 2-3 TBSP butter
  • 2-3 tsp finely chopped onion
  • 2-3 tsp minced garlic
  • 1/2-2/3 c white vinegar
  • 1/3 c brown sugar

Directions

  1. You can use store bought bacon bits, but I don’t recommend it, as the grease from the bacon adds to the flavor of the dressing; the bacon is easier to crumble if it is cold, so this is a great recipe for leftovers from breakfast.

  2. Saute bacon bits, grease, butter, onion, and garlic until onion is cooked through.

  3. Add vinegar and sugar, stirring until sugar is thoroughly dissolved

  4. Heat to a boil. Allow to boil for approx one minute, then remove from heat and allow to cool

  5. Can be refrigerated, but will solidify, so you’ll need to heat it when you use it at a later time

  6. Makes enough for approx 4 – 6 salads
