Categories: Pizza/flatbread

Ingredients

  • 1 skirt or flank steak, 1 1/2-2 lbs
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • 2 red onions, halved and thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 tbsp balsamic vinegar
  • 2 cups good marinara sauce
  • 1 recipe Pizza Dough
  • 12 oz fresh mozzarella, thinly sliced
  • Steak sauce to taste
  • Shaved Parmesan cheese

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 500 and arrange the oven rack to the very bottom.

  2. Season the steak with salt and pepper. Grill both sides of the steak over medium heat until medium rare, about 2 minutes per side. Remove it from the heat and set it aside.

  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, saute the red onion slices in 1 tbsp olive oil and 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar until soft, about 10 minutes.

  4. Mix the marinara sauce the remaining 2 tbsp balsamic vinegar.

  5. Roll out the pizza dough into a large oval and place it on a baking sheet. Spread the sauce mixture all over the surface of the crust.

  6. Arrange the onion slices all over the sauce. Lay the mozzarella slices over the onions, then place in the pan in the oven on the lower rack. Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until the crust is golden and the cheese is bubbly and hot.

  7. While the pizza is baking, slice the grilled steak very thin. Pull the pizza from the oven and immediately lay the steak slices over the top.

  8. Transfer the pizza to a cutting board. Drizzle some steak sauce over the steak. Sprinkle with the Parmesan shavings.
