Apple Dumplings

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 6 apples peeled and cored

  • DOUGH:
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup milk

Directions

  1. Make syrup of sugar and water, bring to boil. Add cinnamon and nutmeg. Add butter.

  2. Peel and core apples, cut in 8th’s.

  3. DOUGH: Sift flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in shortening, add milk. Stir until moist.

  4. Roll out dough thick. Cut into 12 each 5 inch squares.

  5. MAKING DUMPLINGS: YOU WILL NEED EXTRA SUGAR, BUTTER, CINNAMON AND NUTMEG TO COMPLETE.

  6. Arrange 4 pieces of apples on each square, sprinkle with lots of cinnamon, sugar, nutmeg and dot with butter.

  7. Fold corners together, pinch edges together.

  8. Place 1 inch apart in greased pan. Pour syrup over all

  9. Bake 375 degrees for 35 minutes.

  10. You can serve warm with ice cream or cool whip.
