Ingredients

  • 2 packages active dry yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 large egg
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1/2 cup old-fashioned oats
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2-3 cups flour
  • Additional melted butter

Directions

  1. In a small bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water. In a large bowl, combine butter, honey, egg, whole wheat flour, oats, salt, yeast mixture and 1 cup flour; beat on medium speed until smooth. Stir in enough remaining flour to form a soft dough.

  2. Turn dough onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic, about 6-8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover with plastic wrap and let rise until doubled, about 1 hour.

  3. Punch down dough; shape it into 15 balls. Arrange in a greased 13×9-inch pan. Cover with a kitchen towel; let the dough rise in a warm place until doubled, about 45 minutes. Preheat oven to 375.

  4. Bake until golden brown, about 20 minutes. Brush with additional butter. Serve warm.
