Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp. butter
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 1/2 cups packaged biscuit mix
  • 1 cup shredded sharp process American cheese
  • 1 tbsp. poppy seeds

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 400. Grease an 8×1 1/2 round baking pan. Set aside.

  2. In a medium skillet, melt 1 tbsp. of the butter over medium heat. Add onion; cook until onion is tender, stirring occasionally. Remove half of the onion slices and chop; set aside remaining onion slices.

  3. In a small bowl, whisk together milk and egg until mixed. In a large bowl, add milk mixture to biscuit mix; stir just until moistened. Add the chopped onion, half of the cheese, and half of the poppy seeds. Spread batter into prepared pan. Sprinkle with the remaining cheese and the remaining poppy seeds. Arrange reserved cook, sliced onion on top.

  4. Melt remaining 1 tbsp. butter; drizzle onto mixture in pan. Bake about 20 minutes or until a wooden toothpick comes out clean. Serve warm.
