Guacamole

(from JCav’s recipe box)

I don’t really measure anything, so measurements are approximate

Prep time: 15 minutes
Cook time: 0 minutes
Serves 8 people

Categories: Mexican, condiments

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe avocados (ripe is black or nearly black)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp garlic powder (since this is not a cooked dish, fresh garlic does not incorporate well)
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin (comino)
  • 1 tsp red pepper flakes
  • 1 TBSP lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup sour cream (I have been known to use mayonnaise when I haven't had sour cream)

Directions

  1. Slice avocados lengthwise to the stone and pull apart. Remove stone.

  2. Spoon out the flesh from each half and place in bowl.

  3. Add salt and garlic powder.

  4. Mash (could use a fork, potato masher, or pastry blender).

  5. Add chili powder, cumin, red pepper flakes and blend well.

  6. Add lemon juice and sour cream, again blending well.

  7. Lay plastic wrap directly on the surface of the guacamole and chill for several hours.
