Grace’s red lentil soup

Ingredients

  • package of lentils - 2 cups of lentils
  • 1/2 cup of other starch (barley or rice) [BARLEY]
  • onions (1 medium)
  • carrots (2)
  • celery (1 stalk)
  • clove of garlic
  • hot pepper
  • cumin (not too much)
  • canned tomatoes [SMALL]
  • half a can of tomato paste
  • paprika for color
  • salt and pepper
  • parsley or mint

Directions

  1. saute onions and carrots and celery until really soft

  2. add hot pepper

  3. add crushed garlic

  4. add cumin (not too much)

  5. put in cups of water

  6. put in lentils and rice

  7. cook that until done

  8. add canned tomatoes

  9. add half a can of tomato paste

  10. add paprika for color

  11. add salt and pepper

  12. can through in a little parsley or mint
