Ingredients

  • 8 slices white bread
  • Nice ham (the thinner the better)
  • Cheddar (or whatever cheese you fancy)
  • A few spoonfuls of cream cheese
  • Dijon mustard
  • Soft butter
  • 4 eggs (at room temperature)

Directions

  1. For the boiled eggs bring a pan to a rolling boil and simply submerge the eggs and boil for 5 and a half minutes. Remove and plunge into cold water. This will stop the cooking process but retain their soft centres.

  2. Combine the cream cheese and mustard in a small bowl. This will be the glue for your sandwiches. Spread onto the insides of your bread.

  3. Cut very thin slices of cheddar. Use a peeler or cheese slicer to get really thin slices.

  4. Make the ham and cheese sandwiches and cut off the crusts, then cut into soldiers.

  5. Butter the outsides of the sandwiches to prepare them for frying.

  6. Fry in butter until toasted, making sure to turn them to toast each edge.

  7. Serve your soldiers with the dippy eggs.
