Strawberry Refrigerator Cake

(from home4edu’s recipe box)

Audrey’s birthday cake for like forever…it’s that good. We ‘might’ be changing for a homemade one as the artificial flavor has become ‘off’ for us. But, this is still a great cake! (this is a vintage cake recipe now! lol)

Ingredients

  • Cake:
  • 1 package Duncan Hines Moist Deluxe Strawberry Supreme Flavor Artificially Flavored Cake Mix
  • 20 oz fresh (or frozen thawed) sliced strawberries
  • 2 T sugar
  • Topping
  • 1 package (4 serving size) Vanilla OR Cheesecake instant pudding and pie filling mix
  • 1 C milk
  • 2 C frozen whipped topping, thawed
  • Fresh Strawberries for garnish -optional

Directions

  1. Sprinkle 2 T sugar on the sliced strawberries, stir and set aside.

  2. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease and flour 13×9 pan.

  3. For Cake, prepare, bake and cool following package directions for Basic Recipe.

  4. On cooled cake, poke holes 1 inch apart in top of cake using handle from wooden spoon. You want these larger holes, not small ones.

  5. Mash sliced, sugared berries to increase juice. Spoon evenly over top of cake allowing mixture to soak into holes.

  6. For Topping, prepare pudding mix following package directions using 1 C milk.

  7. Fold whipped topping into pudding mixture. Spread over cake.

  8. Garnish with fresh strawberries if you wish. Refrigerate at least 4 hours.
