Salisbury Steak

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. ground beef
  • 1/4 c. dry bread crumbs
  • 1 beaten egg
  • 1 tsp. salt
  • 1/8 tsp. pepper
  • 1/4 c. finely chopped celery
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup
  • 1/2 c. water
  • 2 tbsp. minced onion

Directions

  1. Combine all ingredients except soup and water, and shape into an oval patty about an inch thick.
  2. Using a small amount of butter, brown on both sides in skillet.
  3. Combine the mushroom soup and water, and pour around meat.
  4. Cook slowly in covered skillet for 25 minutes.
  5. If desired, put boiled potatoes around meat. Soup and meat juices will make gravy without further thickening.
