Mongolian Shaved Beef

Ingredients

  • Jasmine rice
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 teaspoons finely minced garlic
  • 1 tablespoon freshly grated ginger
  • 1/2 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4 cup dark brown sugar packed
  • 1 pound shaved beef
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3-6 scallions trimmed and thinly sliced
  • Ground Cayenne pepper
  • Red pepper
  • Half an onion

Directions

  1. Toss shaved steak in a mixing bowl coating evenly with corn starch, set aside.

  2. In a small saucepan heat a few teaspoons of oil, adding garlic and ginger and onion sauting for 30 seconds.

  3. Add pepper

  4. Add soy sauce, brown sugar and bring to a simmer, stirring constantly over medium heat until sugar is dissolved and sauce is reduced slightly.

  5. Turn the heat up to high and slowly add in the beef

  6. When beef is nearly done turn off the heat and serve over rice
