Bessie’s Not So Sweet Sweet Pickles

Interesting addition of grapes and grape leaves. And I like these because they are not overly sweet.

Ingredients

  • pickling cucumbers, washed
  • 1 clove garlic, per jar
  • 6 green grapes, per jar
  • 2 grape leaves, per jar
  • 1 head dill, per jar
  • 1 tablespoon canning salt, per jar
  • 2 1/2 cups distilled water
  • 1 cup 90-100 grain vinegar (10% acidity)
  • 1 cup sugar

Directions

  1. Place in bottom of clean sterilized jars…2 grape leaves, garlic clove, 6 grapes, head of dill.

  2. Pack jars very tightly with clean washed small pickling cucumbers.

  3. Add 1 tablespoon canning salt.

  4. Combine distilled water, vinegar and sugar, stirring until sugar is dissolved. This will be a COLD solution.

  5. Fill jar with cold solution and place lids and rings on jars.

  6. Place in cold water bath…bring to boil, keeping an eye on your jars and cucumbers. Heat until the cucumber change color.

  7. Remove, cool. Store 5-6 weeks in cool dark cabinet.

  8. Chill before eating.
