Ingredients

  • 1 stick butter
  • 4 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 quart milk
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 3/4 cup raisins (you can use less or more or none)
  • 1/2 loaf stale poor bread, cut into 2 inch slices (I use a loaf of french bread from the grocery deli/bakery. I purchase it a couple days ahead and allow it to dry just a little)
  • 1/2 cup whipping cream
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 stick butter softened

Directions

  1. Spread 1/2 stick softened butter over 12 inch round baking dish.

  2. Mix eggs, 1 1/2 cup sugar, milk and cinnamon. Stir in raisins, I prefer the golden raisins.

  3. Add bread and let soak for 10 minutes, stirring occasionally to get all the bread soaked. Pour into the buttered pan.

  4. Bake at 375 degrees until pudding is almost firm. Remove from oven.

  5. Increase oven temperature to 425 degrees.

  6. Carefully pour whipping cream (no substitutes please) over top of pudding. Sprinkle with sugar and pieces of butter (1 stick)

  7. Return to oven and bake 10 to 15 minutes longer to set cream.
