Ingredients

  • 1 can sweetened condensed milk (do NOT open can, see directions below)
  • Several bananas
  • Cool whip
  • Either graham pie crust or baked regular pie crust

Directions

  1. DO NOT OPEN CAN!! Peel off label from can of sweetened condensed milk. Wash can removing glue if possible.

  2. Place a clean dish towel in bottom of heavy saucepan. Place can on top of towel down in sauce pan. Cover with hot tap water and bring to a boil.

  3. Boil slowly can of sweetened condensed milk for 2 1/2 hours. It is very, very important to keep the can completely submerged in boiling water. Keep a pot of water boiling on stove so you can add more water to saucepan as it evaporates.

  4. IF YOU DONT FOLLOW THESE DIRECTIONS YOU COULD HAVE YOUR CAN EXPLODE!!!!

  5. After time has lapsed, remove can with tongs from boiling water, placing on a hot pad to cool. If you open while really hot it will sort of ooze out of can and make a mess. YOU WILL HAVE A DELICIOUS CREAMY RICH CARAMEL SAUCE.

  6. Place a layer of sliced bananas in the bottom of your pie crust. Top with the now caramel from the can of sweetened condensed milk.

  7. Layer more bananas on top of caramel if desired.

  8. Top with cool whip. Chill for a couple hours.
