Sour Cream Apple Kutchen

(from cokerlj’s recipe box)

My mother had a similar recipe. It was lost…pretty sure this is it! Made a few “tweaks”! The “Easy Apple Kuchen” recipe in this collection is better and easier to follow directions.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup cold butter, cut into 1/2 inch cubes
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 egg yolks
  • 2 15 oz cans sliced apples or 2 cups fresh, peeled sliced apples
  • Toasted pecans (optional)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Spray a 9 × 13 baking pan with cooking spray.

  2. In a medium bowl, use a pastry cutter to cut the butter cubes into the cake mix until crumbly. Press this mixture into the prepared pan, building it up slightly on the edges. Bake the crust for 10 minutes.

  3. In the meantime, mix together the sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl.

  4. In a separate small bowl, whisk together the sour cream and egg until smooth.

  5. When the crust is done, arrange the apples on it. Sprinkle the cinnamon sugar mixture over the apples. Drizzle the sour cream mixture over the apples (it won’t completely cover them).

  6. Bake for 25 minutes or until edges are slightly brown. Don’t overbake.

  7. Sprinkle on the optional toasted pecans and serve warm with ice cream or whipped cream.
