Easy Apple Kuchen

My mother used to make this back in the 1960’s thru 1970’s. I lost her original recipe but this is very close.

Ingredients

  • Crust--
  • 1/2 cup butter or good quality margarine
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped pecans
  • 1 box yellow cake mix
  • Apple Layer--
  • 1 20 ounce can sliced apples, drain well (not pie filling
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • Drizzle--
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Crust — Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

  2. Grease and flour a 13×9 baking dish.

  3. In a bowl, cut the butter into the dry cake mix until crumbly. Mix in pecans.

  4. Press the mixture lightly into an ungreased 9 × 13 baking dish building up a slight edge.

  5. Bake 10 minutes.

  6. Apple Layer — Take the pan out of the oven and carefully arrange apple slices on the warm crust.

  7. Mix 1/3 cup sugar and 1 teaspoon cinnamon together and sprinkle over the apples.

  8. Drizzle — Blend sour cream, egg, salt, 1/2 cup sugar, and 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon.

  9. Drizzle over the apples.

  10. Bake for 25 minutes or until edges are lightly browned. Do not over bake.
