Crab Pizza

(from cokerlj’s recipe box)

Not a real pizza…but sure looks like one!
This is a very impressive appetizer, always receives comments and compliments. Be sure to arrange on a nice platter for even more oohhs’ and ahhhs!
I serve with nice gourmet style wheat crackers.
You make this in 4 different layers, see ingredient list for layers.

Ingredients

  • LAYER 1:
  • 12 ounces cream cheese
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 very small onion (1/2 onion) grated
  • 2 tablespoons real mayonnaise
  • dash garlic salt
  • -
  • LAYER 2:
  • 1 jar chili sauce or cocktail sauce (Heinz makes a good "chili" sauce
  • -
  • LAYER 3:
  • 8 ounces crab meat
  • -
  • LAYER 4:
  • 2 tablespoons dried parsley

Directions

  1. LAYER 1: Combine ingredients, spread on a large 14-16 inch round flat platter. (original recipe calls to spread on a pizza pan, unless it is a stainless pizza pan the metal will discolor not only the pan but the cream cheese)

  2. LAYER 2: Spread chili sauce or cocktail sauce over base, I make my own using ketchup, prepared horseradish and lemon juice. (recipe in this book)

  3. LAYER 3: Crumble crab meat over sauce. Frozen or fresh is much better than canned. (I use the “fake” crab meat from the meat section.)

  4. LAYER 4: Sprinkle generously with chopped dried parsley. (I always use fresh parsley.)

  5. Cover with plastic wrap and chill 24 hours.

  6. Serve with gourmet crackers and use a butter knife to spread on cracker.
